More than 30 volunteers from ditech put on their gardening gloves, grabbed shovels and got to work on Thursday, October 13 to support Rebuilding Together Twin Cities, all part of the community revitalization project of the St. Paul housing development and community space known as Rivoli Bluff.
Rivoli Bluff will give low and moderate income families a place to live safely and in good health because this isn’t just any place to call home. What makes this development so special is the addition of a community garden and orchard, which will serve as a neighborhood focal point for future homeowners. When complete, it’s estimated that the garden will provide food for 2,500 people in need, both at Rivoli Bluff and in the surrounding communities.
“Being able to make a difference for those looking for a safe and healthy place to live is a special feeling," said Caroline Blakely, President and CEO of Rebuilding Together. "The garden and orchard started by ditech employees will provide residents in Rivoli Bluff with produce and also creates a gathering place for families, helping to build a stronger community."
The volunteers from ditech spent the day laying the groundwork for this soon-to-be vibrant garden. Between pulling weeds and vegetation, to installing a garden fence, and ending with the building of a rain collecting equipment shed, great progress was made in the evolution of the new community. And everyone had a blast doing it!
Chris Baddeley, ditech’s Director, Customer Experience, commented, “This gives me a chance to collaborate with colleagues from different parts of the ditech organization. And it’s a gratifying experience to work on this public garden, a garden that will have lasting benefits.”
“It was truly amazing to see the hard work – and the teamwork by our ditech employees in St. Paul,” said Fern Baker, Director of Partnerships & Brand. “I was blown away. I mean, I’m not just talking about pulling weeds; there were some major power tools in use and some carpentry skills being deployed! It made me very proud.”
Kevin Harvick® Makes a Pit Stop at Rivoli Bluff
Making a special appearance at Rivoli Bluff, on behalf of his sponsor, ditech Home Loans, was Kevin Harvick (@KevinHarvick), driver of the No. 4 Chevrolet in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series. Kevin toured the project site and was truly impressed with the work that the team had done. Afterwards Harvick signed autographs and made sure everyone left with a souvenir in their hand and a smile on their face. He must have created a lot of positive karma because just a few days later on Sunday, October 16, he won the Hollywood Casino 400 at Kansas Speedway!
