A member of the St. Paul Green Tree legal team since 2013, Danielle Ducre Rawls has recently accepted a position on the YouthCARE MN Board of Directors.
The nonprofit organization’s roots go back to 1974, when community leaders opened Wilderness Work Camp, a “summer work and camp program for youth working in the Twin Cities.” Between 1977 and 1990, they extended the program to serve students year-round and launched the Young Women’s Mentoring Program to help girls learn about, prepare for, and find meaningful employment. Over the years, YouthCARE has been recognized with 10 prestigious awards, including the 2014 Nonprofit Excellence Award from the Minnesota Council of Nonprofits and MAP for Nonprofits.
“I first heard about YouthCARE in January 2014 at the MLK Day Holiday Breakfast, when Craig Luedemann accepted the Local Legend Award,” said Ms. Rawls, a University of Pittsburgh School of Law graduate. At that time, Rawls was in participating in a leadership-training program with the Leadership Council on Legal Diversity. During the program, a colleague from LCLD nominated her to the YouthCARE Board for consideration.
As Rawls starts her 3-year term, she joins 25 local community leaders in business, law, education, and other fields. “Some of the Directors are former students who were helped by the program years ago and are now giving back,” said Rawls.
Rawls is the first Green Tree Servicing employee to serve on the YouthCARE Board of Directors. Other Directors represent the U of M, Xcel Energy, Ecolab, and Target. Executive Director Luedemann said, “We are very excited that Danielle has joined the YouthCARE Board of Directors and are looking forward to everything that she will bring to the organization.”
As a Director, policy volunteer, and member of the Strategic Planning Committee, Rawls will help shape the future of the University Avenue nonprofit. “I’m helping with strategy and policy, but also events like the upcoming 2015 Celebration of Urban Youth,” said Rawls. “YouthCARE is always looking for special event volunteers as well as youth mentors.”
