Preparing for your final mortgage payment
You’re closing in on sending your final mortgage payment to your lender. Congratulations! Paying off your mortgage is a huge accomplishment, and can mean significant changes to your financial life. If you’re in the home stretch of your mortgage, we have a few suggestions to help ensure your payoff process goes smoothly.
Here are 3 important things to remember at payoff:
1. Request a payoff quote
You can do this a few different ways. If you’re a ditech Customer the easiest way is to log in to MyAccount and make an online request. Keep in mind that your payoff amount will likely differ from the mortgage principal balance, so it’s important to request the quote.
2. Review your payoff quote
It’s full of critical information such as what’s included in your final payoff amount, how to send final payoff funds, and where to send them. Payoff is different from your usual mortgage payment process. Following your lender’s instructions should help prevent delays.
3. Respect the expiration date
Your quote only applies for a specific period of time. Payments or other transactions you make during this period may affect the payoff amount.
